I find that I use "merge and center" a lot and wondered if there's a keyboard shortcut for it?

Thanks in advance ;)

There is a keyboard shortcut for this, but it's more than a little bit long-winded.  To "merge and center" using the keyboard, follow these steps:

  • Hold the <Alt> key until an overlay appears on the ribbon.

  • Press <H> to select the Home tab.

  • Press <M> to select Merge and Center.

  • Press <C> to merge and center the selected cells.

Keyboard shortcuts like this one are covered in more depth in Essential Skills Lesson 1-15: Use the Mini Toolbar, Key Tips and keyboard shortcuts.
Although this works, it isn't a very good solution when you want quick access to the Merge and Center option!
A better solution would be to create a macro and assign it to the keyboard shortcut of your choice.
This technique is explained in detail in Expert Skills Lesson 9-11 Record a macro with absolute references.
