I have a cluster chart. I need to make just one of the categories appear a little different, be it shade or a slanted line shading. There are about four bars in each group. I can't select just one.

Hi MikeyMike,

You can definitely do this, you just need to click twice on the chart element that you want to format. Clicking once on a bar will select the entire group, clicking a second time will select just that bar and allow you to change its color.

You can see how this is done in the video lesson: Essential Skills Lesson 5-20 Highlight specific data points with color and annotations.

I hope this is what you were looking for, but please feel free to reply if you're still having trouble doing this.

How does this work for stacked bars?

Also, I don't want to change the color. Rather, I want to change the shade or add diagonal lines inside the bar.

Hi MikeyMike,

This should work in exactly the same way for stacked bars - simply click on the bar that you want to shade, then click again on the part of the stacked bar that you want to shade.

You can add diagonal lines inside the bar by selecting the Pattern fill option instead of the Solid fill option when formatting the chart. Otherwise, the process is exactly the same as shown in: Essential Skills Lesson 5-20 Highlight specific data points with color and annotations.
